I was watching Flash Forward on Netflix recently and there were a couple of instances where they used songs to great effect so I was thinking of other T.V. shows and movies that used songs to make an impression.
1. a) The Royal Tenenbaums: Nico's version of
"These Days" when Margot meets Ritchie at the bus. b) Royal and the grandsons' mayhem to
Simon and Garfunkel's "Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard." c) Van Morrison's "Everyone" at the end of the movie.
2. Six Feet Under: NOTHING beats
Sia's "Breathe Me" to that amazing, series-ending montage.
3. a) Flash Forward:
Bjork's "Oh So Quiet" while the bus rolls into the pond. b) Pearl Jam's "Unthought Known" during a powerful ending montage to that episode.
4. Notting Hill: That montage to
"Ain't No Sunshine."
5. For something more upbeat, Ferris Beuller's Day Off:
The Beatles' "Twist and Shout."
6. Beetlejuice:
"Day O" by Harry Belafonte. That was such a hilarious bit.
7. Lest I forget, that
"Don't Fear the Reaper" at the beginning of The Stand.
