My kitten has a shoe fetish, actually a shoe liner fetish. She used to pull them out and lay them on the floor next to the shoes. Now she just drags the toe end part-way down the shoe. When you try to put your shoes on the next day, it's like someone "short-sheeted" your shoe - you jam your toes against the rolled up shoe liner.
