Forbidden: The Sacrifice, 1st in the
Forbidden series by Samantha Sommersby, is All Romance eBooks' final Earth Day countdown selection, free courtesy of Samhain.
This is a 4-flame het paranormal erotic action/adventure-looking romance with psychics, demons, a knife-wielding shrink, and heavy use of first-person viewpoint, according to the reader comments. Also previously offered free at Amazon and B&N, but the ARE version is DRM-free (well, technically, so was the B&N one).
Linkage to the product page, where it'll be free until the end of the 22nd, and you can still pick up the previous day's 5-flame gay ex-cop-turned-PI erotic suspense/thriller if you missed it:
A Deadly Game
Description
There’s a fine line between mysticism and madness…one they must cross to win.
Forbidden, Book 1
London psychiatrist Wesley Atherton is a man of science. He doesn’t believe in love at first sight…until he finds himself inexplicably drawn to a green-eyed American beauty he bumps into on the Tube. Just his luck, Katherine, a fashion design intern, has an engagement ring on her finger.
Wes knows a thing or two about people, though. Instinct tells him there’s something more than irresistible temptation behind their attraction. She doesn’t love her fiancé, he’s sure of it—now if only he can convince her they’re meant to be together.
Surviving a deadly train wreck is the first sign his intuition is spot on. The second—a psychic who warns them the Reaper doesn’t like to be cheated out of its quarry. The situation defies all logic, but a string of strange and lethal events convinces Wes that he and Katherine are living on borrowed time. Pitted in a battle against death itself, Wes will do anything, make any sacrifice, to protect the woman he loves.
This book has been substantially revised and expanded from its original published version.
Warning: This book contains one bad-ass demon, spectacular shagging, a feisty American heroine, and one very hot, very British, knife-wielding shrink.
The author also has two other short stories free at ARE:
Forbidden: The Union, in the same series as above, starring a vampire sorceror on the trail of an immortal serial killer; appears to be f/m/m, as it's tagged as gay while the description hints that f/m is the main pairing with a little friendly threesome action and the cover shows a trio
Smokin', on the other hand, seems to be an unambiguously contemporary f/m erotic encounter
I'm actually kind of tempted to do some sort of stats table for the frequency of subgenre types that were given away for the Earth Day countdown. Someone over at ARE sure seems to love their BDSM and their action/adventure thrillers, preferably combined.
Though that may just be due to lingering anecdotal impression.
