You don't state your platform/device. On my Mac and iPad there are several apps that allow notes but the only thing I've found that allows notes to go back and forth between my Mac and iPad is Kindle (the mbp note file MUST be generated on the iPad to be compatible on both.)

I'm talking about public domain stuff here... not purchased books which are automatically "synced."
