No, I add a cover in Calibre.

If I "Send to Device" (iTunes/iPad) the cover appears in IBooks/iPad. If I "Send to Disk" the cover does not appear when manually dropped into itunes "Books."

These are public domain epubs for distribution so I'd rather "send to disk" to have them in a separate folder. Like I said, perhaps I'll just grab the file out of the iTunes media folder.

btw.. Once the cover is added in Calibre I can convert to mobi and the file looks great in Kindle app (iPad). This is the "saved to disk" mobi file. It is ONLY an ePub "Saved to Disk" in iBooks where the cover doesn't show.

And again, converting the epub to epub "blows up" the formatting.
