Most likely your double-page PDF consists of scanned images, which you won't be able to easily convert in Calibre- the best you could hope for would be having the same images embedded into another format. If the file is not scanned images, then you're dealing with (at least) double column layout, which will be impossible to convert well in Calibre with the current PDF conversion engine.
Basically, you're out of luck.
