For the same reason Maccies would have a fit at any criticism - whether factual or not - of their iStuff. Some brands develop a cult-like following and these folks get very defensive very fast. Instead of dismissing some dude who doesn't like touchscreens for ebook readers, they embark on a major campaign to clear the good name of the object of their adulation. It's all emotions, that's all.
