Indeed. The first part of my relationship with Shel was 99% IM. The rare occasions we could talk on the phone were amazing. When you know someone exclusively online for a couple years you develop a real appreciation for the unspoken back-channel, let me tell you.

So for the record, Shel and I didn't meet at MR but she's the reason I'm at MR and we met online*. My 2 pence...

*Technically, we had spoken on the phone thrice before under entirely different circumstances.
