No access to wall charger. It was left at home.
Well, the battery seems to be holding a charge now..
I have a partial answer. I have now observed that occasionally when you unplug the wall charger, the device doesn't quite notice enough. It keeps the display and CPU on and drains all charge.
Recent experience has shown me that the key is to ensure after disconnecting your PRS-600 that the device is in a sleep state. You must use the power switch (not necessarily shutdown but I guess that might help too) to ensure this discharge does not occur.
