The same thing happens to me under Linux, but it is not really a problem.
I think the iLiad jumps to the "Connected to PC" screen whenever the USB is plugged in. I always unmount ("Safely remove") the iLiad and after I get the all-clear I unplug the device.
It's been working great so-far, so I guess it's OK.
