Of course, this is pointless if (1) there's any trouble with 3G in the Victoria/Saanich area of Vancouver Island, or (2) the Kindle 3 when purchased in Canada doesn't allow free 3G browsing in the UK. [Or (3) in Seattle, WA... another "overseas" destination!]

My wife has the K3 WiFi, and I have the K3 3G (which also supports WiFi). We did it because this allowed us to have one in graphite and one in white. Plus I travel a good deal and the 3G is really handy. I can answer definitively on Seattle - haven't had any issues at all, anywhere in the greater Seattle area. As for the Island - you should be good almost anywhere, though if there's a Rogers dead-zone you might have an issue there. But I can usually get a good enough 3G connection even in locations where Rogers is iffy.
