I can't help with the acquisition problem, but here is an idea on the consumption side.

At Radio Shack they sell these pillow speakers. They are flat disk-spaced speakers that fit under your pillow, but are still loud enough to hear through the pillow.

Get a Kindle, use text-to-speech and a pillow speaker. Now you can read all night long. It gives you back 8 hours of uninterrupted reading time when all you are doing anyway is sleeping.

... of course, I do have a small problem picking up the plot when I start re-reading in the morning. Maybe if I hypnotize myself when I wake up, I could 'surface' the plot details?
