Another question, are you talking about the total time from when you plug in the device or the time from when calibre says "device detected".

Only the latter time is affected by caching.

The total time can be increased if you have some other device like an adroid phone/tablet connected to your computer that calibre tries and fails to connect to before trying the Kindle.
