This happens often enough that I suggest you first verify that your SD card is fully inserted and that the SD card has been formatted to either FAT or FAT32, or use a different SD card - I've had great luck with the SanDisk SD cards found on eBay. Next, make sure the Cybook has been connected to a valid-for-Cybook USB slot. That means the Cybook doesn't like being connected via an external USB hub or the USB port in an internal media card reader. It's got to be connected to a USB port on the motherboard.

Finally, if none of the above work, try just using an internal or external media card reader for the SD card - directly, not inside the Cybook.
