I currently have a Nook and Kindle (test driving them to see which format I want to stick with). The Nook does have a beige background, which is nice and is more reminiscent of a paperback. However, the major thing that's making me lean more towards the Kindle, is that the Kindle is easier to read in softer light. (I tend to do most of my reading just before bed - and like to keep a bedside lamp on instead of the bright overhead light.) I don't know if it's the grey or the Pearl - but I have to have more light to comfortably read on the Nook than on the Kindle.
