For an easy way to move small files (like ebooks) to your system, may I suggest Dropbox?

You set it up on your desktop computer and on your NC, and then you put your ebooks into your dropbox folder that is created on your desktop computer.

You then run the dropbox app on the NC, and you can see an index of the files/folders on your desktop. You can then download any of those files to your NC. They will be saved in the Dropbox folder, on my NC which is on my internal memory, this is on the root directory of my SD card. On a NC running off the SD card, I'm not sure where the dropbox directory will be created. But you should be able to use a file explorer like Astro to find the directory, and then the books you downloaded in the dropbox directory.

One note - I use Aldiko as my default reader, and when I download the books using dropbox, it will automatically open Aldiko and being reading, BUT if I exit out of Aldiko, Aldiko will "forget" the book. If I manually move the file to the aldiko directory, or have Aldiko scan the dropbox directory, then it will be in Aldiko permanently.

I actually have my Calibre library on my desktop setup INSIDE my dropbox folder - that way ALL of my calibre books are easily available on my NC ...
