I would also go for the Nook color however if it is too pricy then consider the Pandigital Novel. The Cruz reader and the Pandigital Novel are essentially identical in hardware yet the Novel beats the Cruz by having 256k extra internal storage for apps and expandable internal memory (the Cruz has a fixed 2gb internal memory where the Novel has only 1gb internal but it can be replaced for up to 32gb micro sd card. Plus there are plenty of mods available for it at Slatedroid.com.

I have the PDN and love it. The resistive screen may be turn off some people but I find it responsive enough. In any case as I said the Cruz is pretty much identical so same resistive screen.

Edit: BTW the PDN that is similar to the Cruz is the white 7in color reader not the black one. The black Novel uses completely different hardware and it is actually inferior.
