out of box failures while not typical, do happen. I am however interested in you saying the light goes out after a couple of minutes. I have a semi faulty cord that I have learned to live with. try putting the device on a flat surface where the cord will not dangle. watch it for awhile. if the light goes out fairly quickly manipulate the cord a little bit to see if the light comes back on. unless the charging process is substantially different with the DX which I doubt, you should have a yellow light while charging and a green light when charged. it is entirely possible that there is something wrong just inside the charging port. play with your cord a bit to see what happens, then call Kindle customer support. they'll knock your socks off ;o)
