I guess I'm more comfortable with giving recommendations because I like talking to a niche, and as a reader, I like quickly finding out what kind of book I'm dealing with. I'm a voracious reader of anything speculative fiction, but they can be very different. Some books may have more in common with other books outside their subgenre. Or some books may in fact have the most common with video game X or movie Y, and references to those may be more informative than the literary subcategories that they're being marketed under at the moment.
