Personally I find the 3G to be extremely useful. When you want a book, it's very convenient to be able to get it instantly over 3G. Also, the web browser, although rather primitive, is certainly usable, and I'm always looking up information on sites like Wikipedia.
For me personally, 3G is well worth the extra cost.
