Bruce Dern tells the story of how fairly late in Wayne's career Dern had the part of a man who shot and killed Wayne's character.
Wayne said to him, "You know that you're going to be the most unpopular man in America because you killed John Wayne."
Dern replied, "Yeah, but they'll love me in Berkeley!"
Dern says that Wayne got a kick out of that.
