No, this it the usual time. There are several different species of Cherry trees, and each has its own season. Some bloomed last month, others, especially the double blossom Cherrys (the blossoms look more like carnations) will bloom in another 2-3 weeks. But the majority are doing their thing right now, and everywhere you look you see pink and white!

That is what is happening in the photo. People go to parks and picnic under the blossoms, or just stroll along the park pathways. Most of the river banks are lined with Cherry trees too, and folks will stroll along for the afternoon. This is Kyoto's 'Philosopher's Walk' in Kyoto, a 2km-long path through north-eastern Kyoto. The Philosopher's Walk visits five significant temples and two shrines as it winds along the base of the mountainside, and all of it is lined with Cherry trees!
