I take my Kindle with me when I tutor literature because I want to have quick and easy access to the books my clients are reading.

I'm also a habitual fact checker and annotator. If I'm reading something, and I think, "Gosh, is that an allusion to X? What the heck does Y mean?" I'm very happy to be able to jump onto Wikipedia for a quick bit of research.

So, yes, having wifi (and for that matter, 3G) is a deal breaker for me.
