The first question is what sort of stuff you like to read? There's an awful lot of electronic content out there, but there isn't a single ebook format everyone supports, so what form your preferred content is in will be a factor in your choice of reader. (PDF files are a particular source of problems.) For example, I read ebooks on a Palm OS PDA, and maintain five different viewer programs to cover all the bases.

You can find a number of ebooks posted here by MobileReader users, who have taken public domain texts from Project Gutenberg or work released un the Creative Commons license and created finely crafted electronic editions for specific readers.
