Yes, I agree that the Doom thing is silly (reminds me of an old cartoon of an engineer networking the refrigerator).
Speaking for myself, my ideal new eReader would be something similar to a 301+, but with a higher resolution (and maybe slightly larger, by reducing the bezel) display, no audio (and therefore hopefully thinner), an additional single page-forward button on the edge (slightly indented like the power button) -- and of course a rock-solid firmware (I don't have to reboot too often -- but would prefer not to at all -- especially as it involves removing the battery cover).
