Now for a freebie: Knight of Ghosts and Shadows by Mercedes Lackey and Ellen Guon.

This is the first book in their (& Rosemark Edghill's) Bedlam's Bard series. The more recent book are available at webscriptions, but this one was too early, and hasn't appeared as a reissue of fill-in yet. It is, however, now available in various ebook formats for free on the "Invasion CD", the most recent of the CD compilations included with various Baen hardbacks.

I've read the others from the third in the series. After this one there's only the second one missing. Hopefully it too will eventually appear in ebook format.
I loved that whole series (Bedlam's Bard.)
