I've had my Sont PRS 505 for over 2 years. It has gone through multiple airlines in carry-on, it has seen monthly weekend trips away from home, and the worst it has seen was 3 months deployed to Iraq. Worst damage it saw was the original vinyl cover broke its binding, and I have replaced the cover with a new one.

I always keep it in its cover. For trips, I have a home-made rigid box that it goes in to prevent damage from packing it next to my laptop.
