well depends what you mean here, to use the mobi DRM from Amazon they have to deal with Amazon ...one post I read, said Amazon was pushing for other vendors to use Amazon's servers (for a small charge)I guess Amazon staff love playing that game Monopoly


But epub is open source, no fees unless you use Adobe's DRM then you have to pay Adobe money. B&N DRM does not require a server to authorise the ebook each time you put it on a device.


Also why would other vendors go with the mobi format, it has not changed for over 10 years.. (still html3.2) while epub is a more advance system allowing for more features in the formatting of the ebook. Soon we will have epub3 which allows even more styling and better layout for ebooks, while Amazon has not reported any plans to develop mobi beyond what it is now.
