Usually the cheapest option is to buy while on a foreign trip and then bring the item back to your country in your hand luggage because your personal electronics are usually exempt from customs duty. It is the same category as your personal camera, cellphone or laptop computer that you take with you on all trips. In this case it has to be unpacked though because gifts are still considered taxable imports.
If you buy Kindle in the UK you can also get VAT refunded at the airport upon return. You will need to show receipts and proof of your non-EU residency.
