What does that have to do with the price of tea in Tibet? There were plenty of other vendors who were selling MobiPocket books, and supplying MobiPocket readers, long before the Kindle came out. It may even be that Amazon's abandonment and isolation from everyone else was part of the incentive for creating ePub in the first place.
