Again, it's probably an issue with applying some force to the screen, even through the case or more likely a twisting or torsional force. Say you take your kindle with one hand grabbing the top and the other hand grabbing the bottom, even in the case, and turn your hands in opposite directions like wringing out wet laundry. Those forces can probably crack the internals of the screen.
So, adding a "shutter" of thicker aluminum or similar material to which attach the kindle or just make sure they remain together, should help. I don't know how much force at the back would break it.
