Actually I believe the fair use doctrine allows consumers to legally make copies of movies and songs that you purchased to make backup copies for yourself or use on other devices. Just don't distribute or share the copies.

But I agree with GreenMonkey. Do what your conscious tells you. If you've paid for a hardcover copy of the book, I wouldn't feel bad about downloading a digital copy of it for use on the reader.
