Mine is a 1005 for the sn, so I don't know how much help I can provide :/. But from what I understand, the browser issue is something present in the 1.5 firmware. Unless B&N sneakily fixed the browser, the best advice I have at the moment is to go slow with the crashing.
Does goonies.be/~neilk/adbd.html crash the browser to the main menu? If all goes well, it should crash it, and then you will get an error message when running the browser again. If that is working for you, then what I found to work best is to crash the browser and wait about 10 seconds before crashing again. That tends to speed up the process. With the batch I made, you'll need to do the crashing procedure twice (first time injects the ratc.bin file, and second time for the modified init.rc file).
One other thing that comes to mind at the moment is the speed of the "unable to connect" message. My batch winds up clearing the status message quickly, so its hard to see whats going on, but if it looks like its taking a long time between "unable to connect" messages to pop up, then there might be a connection issue somewhere.
