Actually, there is. As the law is written (US), it refers to any digital media to which you have the rights.

It could be argued that the only difference between a purchased ebook and a borrowed ebook is the length of time to which you are given the rights. You do not technically own ebooks you purchase.

It's certainly open to interpretation. There is no right nor wrong. Everyone is free to decide what they think is right.
