Incorrect. OOB mine came with 1.7 or maybe 1.71 and almost instantly after enabling WiFi it offered the 1.74 update.
i.e. if Kobo did things intelligently with the WiFi the first thing it does once it gets on a network is check it's version # v. the current version # and offers an update if there's a newer one available. This is evidenced by the OOB experience with mine.
There's not much point in WiFi if it can't also check for updates as well as shop... I've actually also had it go to the shop to see if that MIGHT trigger another fw version check(this is another good place for the fw to auto check versions), but still no offers.
Anyways had wifi on again this morning for a bit, and still no update offer. Charging now as having the wifi on for a bit to check for update effectively pushed the batt down to the point where I need to recharge IF I should want to use it much later today.
