There are certain unwritten rules on the Internet forums.
You do not over-quote (on some forums you can get a ban for it)
You use multi-quote if this feature is present.
You do not have to do it. It is just a common courtesy.
(Like, you do not spit on a pavement in a town. Many do. Nobody bans it. Just a common courtesy not to do it). Each of us chooses to follow whatever rules and logic our mind or soul? suggests to us.
