I wish I could rattle off the number of favorite novels that were made into excellent movies... but I just can't. I will name:

2001: A Space Odyssey (though, technically, a movie made from a short story, and the resultant novel written in conjunction with the film)
The War of the Worlds (Spielberg-Cruise)

V for Vendetta
