Have you tried Man with a Maid and it's sequels (I think there are two)? Quite a bit of spanking, the sequels get more heavily BDSM. Also the Sleeping Beauty trilogy by Anne Roquelaure (aka Anne Rice). There's actually a decent story in those.

Recognized the name from Epic of Gilgamesh, mostly through various fantasy and romance allusions. Sorry don't know how he became civilized, I do know that one or both of them died, but now you've got me curious, I'm going to have to find it and read it.
