I don't have much experience with libraries but I always thought that when you borrow a printed book, you have to return it let's say for argument sake in 21 days. If you have not finished it by the end of that time period, you just went to the library a few days before the end day and renewed the time lease. One limitation is you cannot renew it for more than 2 consequent times.

Cannot you prolong the time lease with ebooks?
