No, they are definitely not. The nook plug looks like a standard small USB plug, but it's not. It's a tiny fraction of an inch longer. This is because the USB specs provide for a certain amount of power for thinks like charging batteries, but not very much. The very end tip provides a higher voltage (and wattage) to the nook. It will charge on a standard USB cable ,even though the manual says it won't, and it won't show as charging on the screen, but it charges very slowly that way. I don't know if the Kindle uses a standard cable of not.
I'd be concerned that the higher voltage might damage the Kindle if you tried to charge it with the nook charger.
