It's easy to tell: I assume they use the identical micro USB plug (my Kobo has the mini, my Kindles 2 and 3 a micro). Check the charger and look for the output specs printed in teeny tiny type. It should say something like 4.9V -- 0.85A (that's what the Amazon Kindle 2 plug says). If you are lucky, you can also a smartphone adapater -- my Blackberry Torch came with 5V -- 750mA which is virtually the same thing but outputs slightly less and would take slightly longer to recharge the Kindle. With a different USB cable, it works fine on a Kobo although I tend to use yet another adapter I have for an older device which puts out 5V -- 350 mA.
You want to avoid plugging in to something capable of a lot more juice that your device expects but anything in the ballpark should be fine. The first couple of times you try it, just check the device for excess heat.
