I wonder if they've gotten they idea in their heads to become a full scale publishing house, not just for a few exclusives here and there, and maybe for paper books as well. They could even give up the notion of exclusivity in order to attract writers.
Seeing as how publishers' wholesale pricing/restrictions on ebooks has been a point of contention for Amazon, they could just decide to break into the industry on their own, and they certainly have the resources to compete for authors.
