I have been after a copy of a novel called Pope Joan, i can go into the local bookstore and buy a paper copy, but i went to amazon to buy the ebook, and was greeted by the message Not Available to Australia

In this situation I'd suggest doing one of two things:
1) Buy the paper copy and pirate the e-book. If you ever sell, give away or throw out the paper copy, delete the e-book.
2) Get a paper copy at the local library and pirate the e-book. Once done with the e-book, return the paper copy and delete the pirated e-book.
Some may disagree, but as far as I'm concerned doing one of the above is not even morally questionable.
