I imagine it depends on that particular soul's dysfunction, the guru we're talking about, and how well the soul takes advice. For example, John Gray did help me clarify some relationship differences I was only tangentially aware of. My third wife appreciates that, lol.

If you want to "make friends and influence people" you could do a lot worse than to follow Dale Carnegie's recipe in his very old book with that title.
