Yes. Except it's not so much "without the sex" but "with less sex". I like sex in stories, especially if it contributes to the character development and/or plot. But with well-written stories I frequently find myself wishing that the author would skip this sex scene here right now and get on with the plot instead.

Tease. Come on, spill! I want titles and authors here. :-) I'll reciprocate once I'm back home and have access to my bookmarks again. One story I remember blowing me away is Ryan Sylander's
Opus One - it's a standard threesome romance, but I have a weakness for music-themed stories, which this one is, and I found myself drawn into the story and characters despite having started it for the smut.
As for the original question: MeiLin Miranda is, hands down, my favourite adult-themed author. Her Intimate History series isn't exactly pure erotica, but it's well-written fantasy with engaging characters, a detailed world, and a wide-ranging plot which happens to have sexuality as one of its main themes.
