I'm right there with you. She isn't what I pictured either, although I don't know if I'd say that is a bad thing. In my opinion there is no way they could have picked a teen girl and stayed "true" to the books anyway. Not when you stop and think that she was naked and getting full body waxes and the like in quite a few different scenes.
It was a pretty in your face part of the storyline. I think just to drive home the fact that these kids weren't thought of as kids, they were objects.
Not that I think they'll include any of the questionable scenes in the movies anyway, just saying that some of these things would never be allowed to translate from the page to the screen in the first place.
