I caught heck some months back from a forum member for talking about the renderer, though what I was doing was repeating what was shared with us in the beta group. Kobo said they would have to make a switch happen to make the dictionary work with other books. Currently kepub books use the Kobo renderer and other books use the one by Adobe. There may be cost issues here--I honestly don't have a clue about that part.
I do think we can reasonably expect a better dictionary in 2.0 of the WiFi--one that will pick up plurals.
FWIW--I am finding that the kepub books are much improved in 1.9. I have no problem using them and having the ePUB versions only for backup (and of course books bought elsewhere).
