@ desertblues: yes the 2nd effort was efficient
So, I called them, first I got in the hand of a guy called Josh... or something

and it didn't work so well, 10 mins later I called up again and a woman named Caroline S. was a real nice one

She told me she would create a replacement order with charges using a gift certificate balance that she applied to my account - no charge was placed on my credit card. The replacement kindle will be here on 8th April, via Priority International Courier. wow. Oh and I needn't return my broken kindle back to Amazon either

so I think it should be a nice proof of how fragile Kindle is. And an e-mail came later, confirming all the details
