And you mobi files once free of drm, can be read "as is". But, if you want to read in italian, you will have to de-drm the epubs and convert to mobi.
Mmm, not sure about folders on the kindle.
Then the other choices are sony prs-650, cybook orizon, and pockebook (I can't remember the number there).
Wherever your choice, you're up to some mess with de-drming to keep your books.
