A direct connection between the creator and the user is a big part of the Internets potential, tying that connection to a method of payment is a secondary concern but a valid one.

It will be trivial to include payment links in books and then freely share the books. NO ONE WILL BE ABLE TO PIRATE BECAUSE ALL BOOKS WILL BE FREE.

The funny thing is that libraries/librarians might make it their trade to place the spotlight on certain books in exchange for a fee from the author/publisher.
